You Need More than Goals to be Successful in 2024!

You have most likely have set your goals for 2024. Setting goals is just not enough! You need the people around you that will “Lift your Lid” for a successful satisfying 2024. Paraphrasing John Maxwell, “If you have great people around you, they will take you higher than your 2024 dream will. Leaders are never self-made. Those closest to you determine your level of success, so choosing the right companions as partners in pursuit of your 2024 vision and goals is an important decision. My advice is to surround yourself with talented people who will challenge you, help you grow and inspire you to maximize your potential.”
Step One – Review People Who Lifted Your Lid, Made You more Successful in 2024. Who charged you up to grow you, to achieve your 2023 goals? Make a list! Every year, I make a list of all the people in my life that lifted my lids and helped me to grow. Usually these people are better in some skill, attitude or knowledge than you. For example if you are a so-so golfer and what to improve your golf game, you find a coach better than you. Think back to 2023 and list out those people that grew you, supported your vision and goals, and those that held you accountable to achieve success. Remember some of these people may be authors you have never met, but you read their books and blogs. Make the list now!
Step Two – Write a Note or Email to Thank those People who Grew or Supported You in 2023. This message is one of gratitude for the person’s time, patience and skill had a positive impact on your life in 2023. The purpose of this process is express gratitude for their time and skill, and the impact on your life. Make sure each note or email is personalized! Do a few each day till you complete this gratitude list.
You need to grow your leadership in 2024 if you want to attract, retain, and motivate people in your life to support your success and goals. I sent you by my blog a “Lego Goal Sheet” to give structure and process to set your 2024 goals. You may download it here. Having concrete, written goals give focus to you vision of achievement. But, you and I can’t do it alone. You and I need caring, patient leaders to “lift our lids” to grow and achieve satisfying success in 2024. For example, you have a goal to better budget your family or personal expenses to save more. You will search for a financial planner who is more qualified and competent than you, and one who cares and is patient with you as well as to hold you accountable to meet your monthly budget and savings goals. You may also subscribe to financial planning blogs or podcasts.
Step Three – Identify the People who will Grow You and Lift Your Lids for a Successful Satisfying 2024. Begin by reviewing your 2023 list and carry over those people to your 2024 list who continue to help you. You may want to align these people to specific goals you have envisioned for 2024. Then add new “lid lifter people” into your list where you may need new or extra help in 2024 to meet your goals. Remember some of these people may be authors, blog and pod-casters as well. Setting regular times to connect is very important here to have consistent coaching or discussions and to keep you accountable. My list includes 17 people and a few authors. Your 2024 list should have three columns: Name of the Lid Lifter, Goal or Area of Help, and the Schedule or Timing to Connect. Do this list with three columns this weekend!
Don’t be a Frank Sinatra “I Did it My Way” but be a leader that says “Together We are Better.” Get cracking to do your thank you notes and Lid Lifter List list this weekend!
