Lead a Wholesome Life in 2023 - Use the ELAvate Lego Goal Sheet for Focused Success

Wow! It’s December already and time to reflect on 2022 and plan for 2023. We at ELAvate firmly believe not so much in “life balance” but a “wholesome life” that leads to less stress and more success.

Begin by reviewing your 2022 by answering and reflecting on these questions:

  1. What successes or accomplishments are you most proud of in 2022?

  2. What failures may have limited your success in 2022?

  3. Name 4-6 things, people, or actions you are most grateful and why in 2022?

  4. Describe your life mission statement that gives you passion and meaning.

  5. What are three strengths you have that contribute to your life success?

Spend time reflecting on these 5 questions. Write out your answers and reflections to give you a view of what to keep doing and what to stop doing in 2023. This can prepare you for planning your life “Lego” goals for 2023.

Why Lego? The analogy is that to build a house it takes foundation, a roof and building blocks. The blocks are like Lego bricks that rest on the foundation and support the roof.

Your “foundation” is constructed of the life values you live by that make you an authentic leader. List out your life values and why these values are important to you in living a wholesome life. Remember a life lived by authentic values is a stress reducer.

The roof of your house is constructed of your relationships – your healthy relationships – people you love and respect that help you meet your goals. Unhealthy relationships lead to a leaky roof and can damage the walls, bricks and even the foundation of a wholesome life. List out those people that you have healthy relationships and especially highlight those people that pull you ahead in life. Then seriously list out and consider those people who are unhealthy and hinder or damage your well-being. Repair your “roof” of relationships and build a roof that doesn’t leak with stress and disappointment!

What about the “Lego bricks” or life goals for a more successful wholesome life in 2023? Let’s review the twelve “bricks” or goals that I have had in my life for over 40 years:

  • My Life Values

  • My Family and Relationships

  • My Career and Work

  • My Generosity and Volunteerism

  • My Leadership Growth

  • My Health and Fitness

  • My Finances and Budgeting

  • Learning and Personal Growth

  • What to Unlearn or Give up

  • My Spiritual Growth

  • Holidays and Vacation

  • Out of Box or Crazy Goals

Having goals for these twelve “Lego Life Bricks” that align with your life mission and passion proactively support a more successful, wholesome life in 2023. Zig Ziglar says “if you aim at nothing, you are sure to hit it.” Having specific “Lego Life Goals” can create focus and meaning in your life and help you prevent what I might call a lopsided balanced life of stress. Over the years, I review my Lego Life Goals every quarter, do minor adjustments. Most years I achieve 70-85% of my life goals. I never achieve 100% but I do have a clear focus on what is important in my life and what to avoid or say no to.

Let’s also be clear that the goals you set should be specific. You may use SMART criteria to ensure your goals are measurable or observable. For example, “I want to lose weight and be healthy” is not a clear, focused goal. “I want to lose 6kg by June” is a more focused measurable goal. Here are some other examples of clear goals:

  • Save USD 800 per month

  • Have two family holidays of 10 days each in June and November

  • Cycle a 100-mile century or run a 42 km marathon by September

  • Take my spouse out on a bi-weekly date for dinner or movie

  • Attend a course on constructing a personal/family financial plan by March

  • Volunteer for one day a month at the Old Folks Home in Balestier

  • Meet or exceed my quarterly sales target as a salesperson in my company

  • Attend a spiritual retreat for one week by June

  • Go bungie jumping on one of my holidays

  • Improve my leadership skills by taking a coaching workshop 2nd quarter

ELAvate has constructed a “Successful Leaders Play Lego Goal Sheet” to assist you in reviewing your 2022 and to list out your life goals for 2023. Download this worksheet here.

Begin this weekend with a review of this worksheet, reflect on 2022, and use the goal categories as an outline to prepare for your focused life goals for a great 2023.
