Your 2025 Personal Development and Planning Worksheet “Build a Wholesome “Lego Life” not a Stressful See-Saw!

By Michael J Griffin

5 minute read

I promised in my last ELAvate Leadership Blog to give you a planning worksheet to refocus you on a more wholesome life in 2025. This worksheet I call “Successful Leaders Play Lego in 2025.” Rather than a life of balancing your career against other areas of your life, you can build a more wholesome life with the “Lego life bricks” found on our attached worksheet. I believe a life of significance is built on practically integrating the important aspects (the Lego bricks) of your life so as not to over-emphasize or possibly ignore those Lego life bricks that can lead to an unbalanced, stressful, and possibly a neurotic life in 2025.

You can download our “Play Lego in 2025” worksheet here.

The top of the worksheet asks six life “overview” questions for you to answer to prepare you better to complete the Lego worksheet for a more wholesome 2025. The Play Lego worksheet only provides limited space for you to take notes. You may find that you start with keywords for each Lego Life Brick and them move to a document format as you expand on your goals to be more focused and specific. Let’s review the Lego Life Bricks or goals that can give you a vision and roadmap for an improved more wholesome life next year:

  • Values You Live by. These are the values that give you a “compass of integrity” in your life. Living by your values are the foundation of your daily life and when you follow these you will have a more enjoyable, less stressful life. Who wants a job or relationships that violate your values?

  • Family and Relationships. How might you improve your family and friends’ relationships in 2025? Spouse and children – more time, more attention? How might you do your part to have more healthy relationships? And what relationships might need boundaries or distance for your emotional or mental health?

  • Career and Work. For most executives and entrepreneurs, this box is easy as we tend to focus on being successful in your career. You might list out the important KPI’s your organization has set out for you. Or you might begin to plan a career move or change. Or possibly how you may have a less stressful work life and get out of the rat race.

  • Generosity and Volunteerism. Being generous with your talents and resources is a proven way to lead a more wholesome life of purpose. Volunteering can also be an antidote for a stressful career. Think about what type of organization or cause you may want to volunteer for. You may also set a monthly budget for donating to causes you believe in.

  • My Leadership Growth. Most of the readers of my blogs are in a leadership position. What are you doing to grow your leadership or technical competence in 2025. Conferences, training workshops, webinars, or self-paced learning? Identify the competence areas then identify the specific activities you will participate in to grow.

  • Health and Fitness. Don’t be that person that sets health and fitness goals but gives them up by February! Setting exercise, eating habits, mental fitness, or weight goals are examples here. One key to success is to identify partners that will “run” the health journey with by motivating you and holding you accountable. And don’t neglect your yearly physical checkup as well!

  • Finance and Budgeting. Do you need to have a monthly budget to keep your expenses under control? What about monthly savings and investment goals? Review and purchase adequate insurance? Credit card payment issues? Find a trusted financial planner? Plan for children’s education? How might you be a better money manager?

  • Learning and Personal Growth. Hobbies and personal interests beyond work fit here. Do you want to learn about raising children or navigating your teenagers? What hobbies do you have that you wish to learn more about? What books do you want to read to relax or stimulate your thinking?

  • What to Unlearn/Give up? What bad habits might you need to give up to lead a healthier, wholesome life. Stop smoking or reduce alcohol consumption? Maybe there are communication habits you need to dump – overly critical, too selfish and so forth.

  • Spiritual Growth. This “Lego Brick” may not be for everybody. If it is important to you, what daily practices may you begin? Meditation, mindfulness, prayer time, regular attendance to a place of worship are some ideas here.

  • Holiday and Vacation. Do you regularly use up all your holiday time your company gives you? Are holidays an afterthought? What countries, geographies or cultures would you like to visit in 2025? Do yourself a favor and set your holiday dates now! Be proactive to put your holiday goals into your 2025 calendar!

  • Out of the Box, Crazy Ideas. Maybe you have a life dream to start a business, or, you just want to do a bungee jump in New Zealand. Use this final Lego Life Brick for any far out, crazy goals you might have to reach and stretch yourself! For me, I want to go to Antarctica!

Using our “Play Lego” goal sheet can provide you with a start and help you build your momentum to have a more wholesome, healthy, and less stressful 2025! Start with key points on the worksheet and over this December fine-tune your goals with a vision of wholesome success in 2025! Remember it is not important that you meet all your goals by the end of 2025 but to have clarity and focus. I normally meet about 70-85% of my goals and I am OK because I have clarity and focus every year!

Dear Blog Readers, this is the last ELAvate Leadership Blog for 2024. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy Joyful New Year. We will start the next blog in mid-January 2025. Take care and keep positive!
